CrazyWorld Cafe w/ Kar

Hello again!

Before I start, I would like to say that this blog post would not have been made possible without the recommendation of this cafe from my dear friend, Rebecca Ten, and also, Chun Ting, for taking out time to visit this place with me! Well, without further ado, I present to you...

CrazyWorld Cafe

I went back for the second time in the afternoon, at around 1.55pm. We were relieved to see that the place was not crowded and only two tables were occupied. In the cafe, the ambience was soothing and Chinese Indie Music was being played. There were also many pictures of bands and famous musicians up on the walls of the cafe. Adding to the quaint atmosphere, items that reminded us of our childhood days, were also on sale.

I went for the highly recommended Beer Battered Fish and Chips ($12.90) while Chun Ting decided on the Mushroom Aglio Olio ($11.90). We also ordered the Special Homemade Iced Lemon Tea ($3.50) and the Milo Ice-Blended ($5.90) to accompany our main courses. I was really psyched to try the Beer Battered Fish and Chips for the very first time and I am glad I did. The Beer Battered Fish tasted good but I was expecting a strong beer flavour to it. The chips didn't taste like frozen fries which is commendable. On the other hand, the Mushroom Aglio Olio was pretty unsatisfying. Chun Ting felt that the dish lacked capsicums and was far too generous on the pepper. I tasted it and true enough, the pepper covered the flavour of the dish. The drinks were pleasantly refreshing though. The Special Homemade Iced Lemon Tea had a nice bitter aftertaste that leaves you wanting more while the Milo Ice-Blended had a sweet chocolatey taste to it. We also had the Xmas Waffle that is topped with vanilla ice-cream, gula melaka syrup and coconut shavings.

The prices listed above are their standard prices. However, if you're planning to visit the cafe in the afternoon, there is the Set Lunch Promotion to consider. It is valid from 12pm to 2pm.

It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you give this place a go before it ceases its operations in March 2013. I got the opportunity to talk to the founder of this cafe and he felt that there wasn't enough support for the arts in Singapore. CrazyWorld Cafe is a decent place to hang out with your friends or family on lazy afternoons or to have dinner at. They also serve the All Day Breakfast ($10.90) which gives you another alternative for Brunch as well. The cafe is located at:

24 Temple Street Singapore 058569
(Chinatown MRT Exit A

As always, do remember to TWEET ME AT @KARKARJIN if you are intending to visit this cafe or anything else. I'm welcome to all tweets!

The Marmalade Pantry w/ Kar

Last Monday, I went to The Marmalade Pantry with a couple of friends (Joy, Rachael and Desh) for it's 1-for-1 Main Course Promotion. When Joy first told me about the 1-for-1, I knew I couldn't miss out on the offer!

One main course typically cost you about $20++ but with the ongoing promotion, you only pay $14 inclusive of GST and Service Charge.

Rachael and I ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara (Top Left, $24) while Joy and Desh settled for Crabmeat Linguini (Top Right, $24). For me, the Carbonara was creamy and delightful. It doesn't hurt that my plate was loaded with bacon and a poached egg. On the other hand, the Crabmeat Linguini wasn't quite as good as what Joy and Desh expected.

On that very day itself, something funny happened while we were waiting for our food to be served. I was looking around the spacious restaurant when I noticed two girls who were queuing for a table, waving at me. I didn't have my spectacles on and I couldn't make out who they were. I turned behind to make sure that they weren't waving at me but everyone else was busy taking photos and digging in. I couldn't recognize the girls and so I just shrugged it off.

However, in a twist of fate, I met two of my secondary school mates, Yuko and Alexis, on the way home and they told me that they were the ones who waved at me! You can only imagine the embarrassment I had to face. We caught up on times and shared our experiences @ The Marmalade Pantry.

They had the Sea Salt Caramel Cheesecake (which I didn't get to try cos' I was too full!) for dessert. Both said it is worth the price of $8 as the portion was fairly big. However, Yuko didn't like that it was 'just a very thin crust of caramel but quite light for a cheesecake' despite the nutty-tasting crumble.

Overall, the experience @ The Marmalade Pantry was pleasant and I would definitely recommend that you go for the 1-for-1 main course promotion. This promotion is only available at Ion Orchard on Mondays, 6pm to 10pm.

Thank god Joy made reservations for us as there was a pretty long queue. Poor Yuko and Alexis had to wait for half an hour before getting a table.

Remember to tweet to me, @karkarjin, to share your thoughts/questions/experiences!

I'll be more than happy to respond to you!
